New Computer
It’s been a year since my last update! Yikes!
Around this time last year I needed to get a new computer and it’s taken me until now to get my development environment set up to work with the new device. Not much of an excuse, but I’ve been busy. Writing.
Here’s what’s been going on:
Syncopation Literary Journal presented Summer Vow, in which I suggest new lyrics for a choral piece I sang once with the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus.
At the beginning of December, Gypsophila provided a home for my poem “Run,” about the vicissitudes of age.
Canadian-based magazine, Blood & Bourbon, printed my bit of memoir about my swimming – and other – lessons in 1960s South Carolina, “Into Deep Water,” in their “Choices” issue. This collection is available as either a printed book or a Kindle edition from Amazon.
In February, The Selkie published my poem, “No ‘Heaven of Animals,’” my response to the horrifying James Dickey poem, in their “Stories of Rebellion” issue. They also conducted a first-rate online launch for this volume, and allowed me to pair this poem with “Phoenix,” previously published in Discretionary Love. I’ve linked to the The Selkie launch reading over on my “Perfomance” page.
Some time back, I had the great good fortune to accompany a friend on her Renaissance Faire visit after she came out as trans. I was thrilled when Messy Misfits Club published the resulting poem, “Smile into Sunlight.”
Over this past year, Krazines has published two more of my poems in Moss Piglet: “Halcyon” appeared in their “Blue” issue last November and “Ball of Yarn” appeared in their “Home” issue this January. As always, the presentation is spectacular, with precisely the right illustations chosen to complement the poems.
Milk & Cake Press included my poem about a mother wolf, “Lupine,” in Dead of Winter Anthology III. This is the the second time they’ve published my verse in a Dead of Winter anthology.
Querencia Press included my bit of memoir, “Port Orange Bridge” in the fourth volume of their ongoing anthology series, Not Ghosts, But Spirits. It’s a beautiful book, full of lovely and challenging pieces.
Also this spring, another of my memoir pieces, “Acorn Cap” a meditation on inspiration, appeared in “A Homesick Issue” of Creation Magazine
In December, Young Ravens Literary Review published my poem “Galileo’s Umbrella” in their “Gravity” issue, their nineteenth.
The Muleskinner Journal published my recollection of fire, “Scorched” in their “Reckless” issue, pages 12-29.
Berlin-based online magazine, The Wild Word published “Day Is Done,” a poem about endings.
3rd Wednesday picked up my poem “Sailing Past St. John,” about a moment shared at sea with my father.
Finally, in their “DIY: Do It Yourself” issue, #197, RFD Magazine published my memoir story, “The Bee Gum,” in which Warren finds treasure in the woods. I wrote this piece with RFD in mind; I’m glad it found its home there.
